Executive Order 926 Disability Support & Accommodation

December 20, 2004 Memorandum

The California State University Board of Trustees Policy on Disability Support and Accommodations is a compilation of statewide-related policies and procedures for disability support and accommodations.  It applies (but is not limited) to academic programs and services, student services, auxiliary programs and services, information resources and technologies, procurement of goods and services, and capital planning, design and construction.  In addition, the Center for Alternative Media (CAM) statewide policy expedites the delivery of electronic texts (e-texts of instructional materials) to eligible CSU students with disabilities.

This coded memo sets forth the roadmap for ensuring accessibility of information technology and resources in compliance with federal and state laws and CSU policy.

This policy applies to all California State University, Long Beach programs and activities, including, but not limited to:

    • Educational, cultural, recreational, and social and/or athletics programs and activities provided, sponsored, administered, or assisted, by CSULB.
    • CSULB academic programs and/or activities.
    • CSULB-sponsored off-campus programs.
    • Housing supplied or regulated by CSULB.
    • The administration of educational policies, admission policies, and employment policies.
    • Employment actions, including but not limited to recruitment, hiring, education, upgrading, promotion, transfer, demotion, layoff, recall, termination, rates of pay or other forms of compensation, and selection for training, including apprenticeship.
    • Choice of contractors and suppliers of good and services.
    • Provision of services and benefits to CSULB students, employees, volunteers, or the public.
    • Receipt of CSULB services and benefits provided by CSULB contractors or vendors.

The Director of Equity and Diversity is the designated campus coordinator for Equal Employment Opportunity, Affirmative Action, and Civil Rights under Executive Order 11246, the Vietnam-Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Title IX.

Required federal Affirmative Action Plans are available for inspection in the University Library, Reserve Book Room during normal business hours.

CSU Executive Order 1096

Systemwide Policy Prohibiting Harassment in Employment and Retaliation for Reporting Harassment or Participating in an Harassment Investigation

In response to recent legal and legislative developments in the area of anti-harassment laws, the attached Executive Order 1096. Executive Order 1096 broadens the scope of what was once the CSU's sexual harassment policy to one that prohibits unlawful harassment based on any statutory category protected by the Fair Employment and Housing Act.

Genetic Testing

In May 2008, President Bush signed into law the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA). Title II of GINA, the provision of the law that governs employers, becomes effective November 21, 2009. Employers must give notice of this new law to employees and job applicants by posting either one of two posters provided by the U. S. EEOC by November 21, 2009.
