Amy Gillick on Faculty of InterHarmony International Music Festival

Alumna Amy Gillick (bassoon) has joined the faculty at the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Arcidosso (Tuscany, Italy), starting this summer. The festival holds three sessions (two in Tuscany and one in Germany) and features many world class guest artists such as Alfred Brendel, Vadim Repin, Bruno Caninio, Jean-Bernard Pommier, and Misha Quint.

Shigemi Matsumoto Invited to Sichuan Conservatory

Shigemi Matsumoto has been invited to give five master classes in Chengdu, China this summer at the Sichuan Conservatory of Music. Her husband Marty Stark will be giving a “Music is a profession” seminar and will be educating the Chinese on how to have a music career in the US.

Alumni Marina Harris and Kenny Stavert will be giving a joint concert on the last day in Chengdu.

Ryan Ross to Perform Fiddler with Bryn Terfel

Alumnus Ryan Ross will perform with Grange Park Opera in London in two roles this season. He will sing Captain Petrovich and cover Onegin in GPOs production of “Eugene Onegin” and also be playing the part of Avram and sing along side his operatic hero Bryn Terfel for GPOs production of Fiddler on the Roof. They will cap off the 10-show run of Fiddler with a performance at the BBC proms in Albert Hall in July.

Maria Shafer Finalist in International Jazz Vocal Competition

Maria Shafer is one of only two Americans among 20 international vocal finalists in a jazz competition in Latvia. The Riga Jazz Stage 2014 takes place April 2-6 in Riga, Latvia, the European Capital of Culture for 2014. The judges are Raimonds Pauls (Latvian composer), Magnus Palmquist (artistic director of Stockholm Jazz Festival), China Moses (American jazz singer) among many others.

Laptop Ensemble in Italy

The BCCM Laptop Ensemble, Martin Herman, Director, is preparing for their concerts rehearsal at LaMaMa, Umbria, as part of the Spoleto Fringe Festival.

La MaMa Umbria International is a nonprofit cultural center and artists’ residence dedicated to the creation of activities which foster cultural exchange and international understanding, In the past eleven years, the Center’s activities have included the presentation of over thirty theatre productions as well as workshops, art exhibitions, and conferences. – See more here.
