Composition Day 2017

Composition Day
Monday, October 23, 4:00pm—Midnight

Composition Day offers prospective freshmen, junior-transfer, and master's students the opportunity to meet with the Composition faculty to answer questions, tour the conservatory’s facilities, and to join enrolled students for informal discussion, as well as to attend one of our weekly Composition Colloquium meetings. This particular colloquium will feature a few of our current composition students, working at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, sharing recent works in an open forum where all in attendance can offer constructive criticism. Interested parties can also chat with current students in the program over pizza, and then take in a free concert in the Daniel Recital Hall of recent works written by members of the composition area. Immediately after this concert, the Conservatory is also hosting a 60x60 event, presenting 60 electronics works by 60 different composers, with each work lasting 60 seconds or less.

60x60 is a project containing 60 works each 60 seconds in length presented continuously in an hour performance synchronized with an analog clock. 60x60 presents a slice of what is happening in the contemporary music scene by representing 60 works that are diverse in aesthetic and style.

Works are selected from an international pool of emerging and established composers and sequenced in order. The resulting mix is presented, without interruption, as a continuous one-hour performance synchronized to an on-stage analog clock.
