Students will present songs from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s remarkable novel, Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre (Wilhelm Meister’s Apprenticeship). Poems from this work continue to fascinate German composers, but of its three main characters, Mignon remains the most compelling. This concert will feature songs about Mignon and about the crazed and bitter character, The Harper, by Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, and Hugo Wolf.

New Music Ensemble

Alan Shockley, director.

Join the New Music Ensemble in the Minimalist classic, Terry Riley’s In C. The ensemble will perform this one-page score (originally written for any instrumentation and any duration) with its own unique instrumentation of violas, electric guitars, piano and toy piano, melodica, mandolin, voices, clarinet, trumpet, percussion, synthesizer, and more!

Also featured is "Treffpunkt" from Aus den sieben Tagen by Karlheinz Stockhausen.

Acclaimed concert pianist Kirill Gliadkovsky presents a program including major works from the Romantic era. Steeped in the Russian tradition, Mr. Gliadkovsky had studied with Lev Vlasenko and Mikhail Pletnev at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow.
