Director of Music Education
Dr. Daniel Zanutto joined the Music Department Faculty at CSU Long Beach in 1999, and teaches several courses in music education and technology. His 23-year career in music education includes high school, middle school, elementary, community college, and university teaching assignments in California and Nevada.
He received his B. A. (Music Education) and M. A. (Conducting) degrees from CSU Fresno, and his Ed. D. (Education) from the Joint Doctoral Program at UC Davis and CSU Fresno. In 1997, Dr. Zanutto completed his doctoral studies with a published research dissertation entitled The Effect of Instrumental Music Education on Academic Achievement. Dr. Zanutto has presented results of his work to the American Educational Research Association and the California Music Educators Association.
Notable accomplishments also include performances of his student ensembles at the California Music Educators Association State Convention, the California Band Directors Association State Conference, the DownBeat JazzFest in Orlando, as well as thirteen DownBeat awards in the areas of jazz, classical, solo, and chamber music performances. Dr. Zanutto is also a member of the California Arts Project, an educational consultant to DownBeat magazine, and serves as Past President for the California Music Educators Association—Central Section.
