High Speed Rail Hydrogeology

Active Dates: 2017-2018

Collaborators: Richard Laton, CSU Fullerton; Kleinfelder Engineering

Support: High Speed Rail Authority (sub to CSUF)

To run a high speed rail from LA to San Francisco, the rail line will need to pass through the San Gabriel Mountains. To help understand possible impacts on hydrology, we have installed a distributed temperature fiber optic system in geotechnical boreholes. The temperature profile will provide valuable information about the movement of water in the mountain.
