Professor Emeritus Bob Finney holds a BA from Marietta College, and MA & PhD degrees from The Ohio State University. He came to CSULB in 1977 as Professor and Chair of the Department (i.e Radio-Television at that time.) He stepped down as Chair in 1993 and returned fulltime to the classroom. He was named CSULB's Outstanding Professor in 1992.

Bob is also a 30 year veteran of the U.S. Navy who served on active duty for 4 years and retired from the Naval Reserve in 1988 at the rank of Captain (0-6.)

"Dr. Bob" retired in 2000 and returned to a previous avocation-professional jazz musician. He is a tenor saxophonist/clarinetist and singer who backs his wife Scarlett (CSULB Class of '83) a premiere jazz vocalist. Named Long Beach's Best Entertainers for 2012, their website is http://www.scarlettdrbobfinneyjazz.com.

He continues to teach just one course per semester in broadcasting history or international media.
