Information Disclosure (FERPA)

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. This privacy right is a right vested in the student. FERPA protects your right to confidentiality and limits our ability to release information about your financial aid. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.

CSULB’s Office of Financial Aid WILL NOT release information about your financial aid records to any person who is not you (the student). Any documentation submitted by you and/or your parents (including details of your award package), is considered confidential and will not be released without your written consent. Parents who wish to discuss their child’s financial aid should encourage their student to complete the release form.

If you would like to authorize CSULB's Office of Financial Aid to discuss your financial aid information with another person – including your parents and/or spouse – submit an Authorization to Release Student Information. This form may be submitted in person at the Financial Aid windows, Brotman Hall 101, or as an attachment via email if the student is not in attendance on the CSULB campus. The form must be sent from the email address on record for the student. Please contact Enrollment Services at (562) 985-8403 to obtain the appropriate recipient email address at CSULB, or for any other questions.
