Freshman Applicants

There is no portfolio requirement for incoming freshman
applicants to the Design Department at CSULB. All freshman
apply directly through CSU Mentor — online application for admission into any State University.



Transfer Applicants 

Those wishing to transfer to the Department of Design at
CSULB must meet the minimum major-specific requirements
and competitive ranking based on the CSULB Supplemental Application. Those who meet these requirements will be invited
to submit a portfolio electronically. Instructions for electronic submission of the portfolio and the deadline for submission
will be communicated in the invitation.

Interior Design Transfer Applicants

Transfer applicants to the BFA in Interior Design must receive a positive recommendation from the faculty following review of a portfolio in order to be

Industrial Design Transfer Applicants

Transfer applicants to the BS in Industrial Design must receive a positive recommendation from the faculty following review of a portfolio in order to be
admitted into the option. Industrial Design prospective transfer students see

BA General Design Transfer Applicants

Transfer students to the BA General Design program do not need a
portfolio for admission.


All transfer applicants are required to apply by the deadline, meet general University
admission requirements, and apply to a specific major. All Design majors are considered

Graduate Students

The Department of Design is not admitting graduate students at this time. We are deferring all graduate admissions until further notice.
