Lecturer Urban has been a self employed fabricator and creative consultant for independent clients including Beverly Fishman, Andrea Zittel, Diller Scoffidio + Renfro, Connie Walsh, Chris James, Hauptman Products, Pure Kitchen, Cherson Prom, and others since 1999.

Prior to starting his own practice, he worked for Beverly Fishman Studio, Bloomfield Hills, MI, Semolina Design, Oakland, CA, Capp St. Project, San Francisco, CA, and Concreteworks Studio, Oakland/Emeryville, CA, where he produced and fabricated projects for contemporary artists. He’s also maintained an active teaching and guest critic at Cranbrook Academy of Art, Carnegie Mellon University, California State University Long Beach, California State Summer School for the Arts, Southern California Institute of Architecture, and California Institute of the Arts. His work has appeared in Art News, The Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, Artforum, Los Angeles Times, and other major contemporary culture publications.
