Nate Hodges, a native of the San Francisco Bay Area first came to Southern California to achieve his Bachelor's Degree in Dance from the University of California, Irvine. While there, he was a member of the internationally recognized choreographer Donald McKayle's Etude Ensemble where he was chosen with 9 others to travel to Paris, France to perform at the Conservatioire de Danse in 2003. From 1999-2003 he was also a member of the award winning hip hop troupe Kaba Modern, most notably made popular by MTV's America's Best Dance Crew, where he served as a dancer and their jazz choreographer until his graduation. In 2009, he was recognized by Kaba Modern Legacy, the group’s alum foundation, with the Artistic Innovator Award for recognition in shaping the artistic vision of Kaba Modern over the years. While at UCI Nate also danced the works of José Limon, Paul Taylor, Christine Chrest, and Colin Connor. Professionally he has danced for Louise Reichlin and Dancers (2003-2004), Funkanometry SF (2004-2005), BARE Dance Company (2005-2007), KM Legacy (2006) and in Another Gay Movie. Nate is currently the Artistic Director of RhetOracle Dance Company, a contemporary jazz company founded in 2006 with a mission to bridge the commercial and concert dance worlds. Nate's most recent successes include the runner-up finalist for Male Dancer of the Year 2010, by The Beverly Hills Outlook, and the 2011 Lester Horton Award for Short Form Choreography for his piece, Flowers That Pick Themselves. Nate has been on faculty at The Jimmie DeFore Dance Center, MMSDance, Elevation Studios, and has taught master classes for Boogiezone Contemporary, Irvine Valley College, Moorpark College, and others. He currently directs the ROP Dance Department at Santa Monica High School.
