What is the CSULB College of the Arts?

Within the CSULB structure, there are many different colleges. Each academic department belongs to one of these colleges. The College of the Arts oversees and provides an administrative structure for the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music, the departments of Dance, Design, Film and Electronic Arts, and Theatre Arts, and the School of Art, as well as for our two ancillary organizations: the University Art Museum, and the Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center.

How is the College of the Arts different from the School of Art?

The College of the Arts is the administrative structure that oversees multiple, unique academic and ancillary departments and organizations. Where do I go to buy tickets to an Arts event on campus?

The CSULB Arts Ticket Office is located at 6200 Atherton Street, on the north side of the Carpenter Performing Arts Center. Twenty minute street parking is available directly in front of the Ticket Office and it is easily accessible from Atherton. The Ticket Office is open Monday-Friday from 11am-6pm, excluding university holidays and on Saturday from 12noon-4pm. You can also purchase tickets in advance by calling (562) 985-7000 or visiting the CSULB Arts Ticket Office Online. Additionally, tickets are generally available at the venue box office beginning one hour prior to the performance.

How can I become an art, dance, design, film, music or theatre student at CSULB?

Acceptance to the University at large is required first and foremost in order to study at CSULB. Please visit the CSULB Admissions Information Page and follow the procedures outlined in order to apply to the University.

Once you have been admitted into the university, admission procedures into the different COTA departments vary – some departments and programs require portfolio review or auditions, others do not.
