Dean Golshani Inducted into National Academy of Inventors

dean-naiCSULB College of Engineering Dean Forouzan Golshani, holder of nearly a dozen patents, was among the nearly 100 innovators inducted as National Academy of Inventors Fellows at the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston this month.

Election as an NAI Fellow is an honor bestowed upon academic innovators and inventors who have demonstrated “a prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions and innovations that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development, and the welfare of society.” Continue reading “Dean Golshani Inducted into National Academy of Inventors”

CSULB Innovators Inducted into NAI

Cal State Long Beach counts many inventors among its faculty. Scattered throughout the university’s eight colleges,  they have few opportunities to cross paths. But with establishment of a National Academy of Inventors chapter, that has now changed.

On Thursday, nearly two dozen inventors from the colleges of the Arts, Engineering, and Natural Sciences & Mathematics were inducted into the newly created chapter, which will meet once each semester.

The chapter has been championed by Simon Kim, CSULB associate vice president of research and sponsored programs, and College of Engineering Dean Forouzan Golshani, holder of nearly a dozen patents. Continue reading “CSULB Innovators Inducted into NAI”

CSULB Forming University Chapter of National Academy of Inventors

National_Academy_of_Inventors_logoCSULB has many inventors in its midst, from the College of the Arts to the College of Engineering. On Dec. 8, all are invited to attend the first meeting of the newly formed  National Academy of Inventors chapter at CSULB.

“Membership in the National Academy of Inventors is significant to a university such as CSULB, which prides itself for innovation,” said College of Engineering Dean Forouzan Golshani, who holds nine patents himself. “The inaugural meeting of the CSULB chapter is a milestone since, for the first time, it brings together all CSULB inventors.” Continue reading “CSULB Forming University Chapter of National Academy of Inventors”

Are You Ready to Dream Big?

If the enthusiastic crowd at the Innovation Challenge’s second information meeting is any indication, a lot of Cal State University Long Beach students have startup dreams.

2015 Innovation Challenge Kicks Off

2015 Innovation Challenge
About 75 students turned out for the Sept. 21 kickoff of the 2015 Innovation Challenge.

ABC has “Shark Tank.” Google has Angelpad. And Cal State Long Beach has the Innovation Challenge.

The annual entrepreneurial event, where student teams compete to win $50,000 in funding and services for the best business idea, was started six years ago by the colleges of Engineering, Business, and the Arts.

The challenge’s goal is to produce one new business for the university each year. And judging from the 75 students who attended the Sept. 21 kickoff meeting, interest is on the rise. Continue reading “2015 Innovation Challenge Kicks Off”
