Biomed Alumni to Speak About Medical Technology Entrepreneurship

leo petrossianCSULB electrical engineering alumni Leo Petrossian will speak to biomedical engineering students on Monday, Sept. 24 about Entrepreneurship in Medical Technology. Petrossian is co-founder and CEO of Neural Analytics Inc., a medical robotics company developing and commercializing technologies to measure and track brain health.

Biomedical Engineering Department Takes Interdisciplinary Approach

Biomedical Engineering studentsThe College of Engineering Thursday celebrated the launch of a new department in the fast-growing field of Biomedical Engineering.

With the introduction of the Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering, CSULB becomes the only CSU in Southern California to offer a standalone degree in this area. Biomedical Engineering graduates will be able to apply their engineering, biology, bioinformatics, and biomechanical knowledge to create artificial organs, prostheses, medical instruments, healthcare management and delivery systems, and more.

NSF Grant Will Help Advance Understanding of Human Motion

Emel Demircan, an assistant professor in the CSULB Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering departments, has been awarded a $175,000 grant to advance the understanding of human motor performance to help clinicians develop more effective motion-training treatments.

The National Science Foundation award will fund research to create a cyber-human framework that advances robotics and biomechanics, deepening scientific understanding of human motor performance dictated by musculoskeletal physics and neural control.

“The project has great potential to impact our society by creating a wearable cyber-human system to provide immediate feedback to the wearer to make postural corrections – applicable for the reeducation of patients with musculoskeletal disorders and for performance improvement in motion training,” she said. College Launches New Biomedical Engineering Major

biomed-blogStudents interested in the fast-growing field of biomedical engineering can now take advantage of the new BS in Biomedical Engineering being introduced by the CSULB College of Engineering.

The BSBME replaces the Bachelor of Science in Engineering – Option in Biomedical and Clinical Engineering (housed in the CSULB Electrical Engineering Department), and makes Long Beach the only CSU in Southern California to offer a dedicated biomedical engineering major.
