Engineering Food Drive Underway

food for ASI pantry pictureThroughout October, faculty, students, and staff can donate nonperishable food items to the recently opened ASI Beach Pantry at bins set up in College of Engineering department offices and in the Dean’s Suite.

The ASI Beach Pantry opened in August to provide food to students in need. To receive food from the pantry, students must be enrolled and present their student ID card. They can visit the pantry once a week.

According to a study commissioned by CSU Chancellor Timothy White, about 21 percent of students on CSU campuses experience food insecurity while in college.

CSULB opened its first food pantry in 2015 at the campus interfaith center. ASI took over ownership of the pantry over the summer and moved it to the University Student Union.

Throughout the year, donations of non-perishable food items and canned goods can be made at the red and blue donation bins located around campus. Donations can also be dropped off at the ASI Beach Pantry Office (USU-302), USU Information & Ticket Center (USU 2nd Floor), and the ASI Recycling Center (5800 E. Atherton St.). The pantry is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
