CSULB Aerospace Engineering major David Ramirez learned about the importance of getting involved back when he was a student at Cerritos College. He served as a student senator there, then ran for vice president of the Associated Students of Cerritos College.
The IEEE Green Energy and Smart Systems Conference—an academic conference launched to advance a systems approach to integrating emerging technologies—marked its 10th year Monday at the Walter Pyramid at California State University Long Beach.
On its first run, the Tank refused to operate. But on its second run, after some tinkering and troubleshooting, California State University Long Beach’s entry in the Chem-E Car competition sped off, stopping within 2.24 meters of its 17.2-meter goal and landing CSULB a first-place win.
Under the direction of Civil Engineering Assistant Professor Lisa Star and Lecturer Jeremy Redman, CSULB’s team placed fifth overall in the American Society of Civil Engineers Pacific Southwest Conference (PSWC) at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo this month.
Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Professor Ramin Esfandiari has been named CSULB’s 2019 Outstanding Professor of the Year.
Dr. Esfandiari, who has been teaching at CSULB for more than three decades, has authored or co-authored 15 books, including “Modeling and Analysis of Dynamic Systems, 3rd ed., 2018”, “Numerical Methods for Engineers and Scientists Using MATLAB, 2nd ed., 2017”, and “Applied Mathematics for Engineers, 5th ed., 2013.”
“I am filled with gratitude for such recognition, as I have simply followed my passion in the past 32 years,” he said.
Hamid Rahai, Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Programs in the CSULB College of Engineering, has been named a Senior Member of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). He is among 66 inventors named to the inaugural class of Senior Members, representing 37 NAI Member Institutions collectively holding more than 1,100 issued U.S. patents.
