Commencement Awards

Commencement 2016 will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 1:00pm by the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in the upper campus quad. The College is proud of our students' achievements, and award recipients are named and recognized during the ceremony. Award certificates are presented to students prior to the college ceremony, usually in departmental award ceremonies. Students are encouraged to consult with their major advisors for their eligibility for the College Commencement Awards. Award information is available at the link below.

1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2016 for the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (CNSM). Those participating in the ceremony will line up in the processional along the Fine Arts Buildings walkway beginning at 12:00 p.m.


Central Quadrangle of the University on upper campus. Your guests should go directly to the Commencement site in the central quad on upper campus; they should not accompany you to the processional assembly area. You should arrange to meet your guests after the Commencement exercises at the reception area. The reception will be held on the terrace of the University Student Union adjacent to the University Dining Plaza. Student ushers will direct seating.

Invitation from the College

All Candidates in CNSM who filed for graduation in Fall 2015, Winter 2016, Spring 2016, and Summer 2016 by the deadlines will receive a letter of invitation from the Dean.


Let us know you are coming! Registration for the CNSM Commencement Ceremony begins January 4, 2016. Register for Commencement.


We encourage you to invite family and friends to attend as your guests. No admission tickets are needed. Children who are accustomed to sitting quietly in large groups are welcome at Commencement. Please tell your guests to allow a half-hour to walk from the parking on lower campus to the Central Quad on upper campus.

Where to Assemble

Graduates may assemble for the procession beginning at 12:00, but no later than 12:30 p.m. Follow signs to the assembly area along the Fine Arts Buildings when you arrive on campus. Complete the name card distributed in the processional line. The card will be used by a reader to read your name when you cross the platform.

Hooding - Masters Candidates

Details will be posted when available.

Line Up - Masters Candidates

Line up according to departmental order in two columns behind the Masters' banner and sign alongside the Fine Arts Buildings walkway at the end nearest the McIntosh Humanities Building. Faculty marshals and college staff will assist at the line-up.

Line Up - Undergraduates

There will be department direction signs in the designated line up area alongside the Fine Arts Buildings. Line up in two columns behind the department banner and sign of your major. Faculty marshals and college staff will assist at the line-up.

CNSM Commencement Program

If you filed to graduate on time with an expected graduation date of December 2015 through August 2016, your name will be printed in the College's Commencement Program that will be on your seat at Commencement. Additional copies will be available at the ceremony.


Immediately following the ceremony, you and your family and guests are cordially invited to attend the College's Commencement Reception at the University Student Union terrace adjacent to the University Dining Plaza.


A commercial photographer will be taking two pictures of each graduate during the ceremony, one while the graduate crosses the platform, and the other after the graduate leaves the platform. Photo proofs will be emailed to the email listed on the name card.

Web Broadcast

The CNSM Commencement ceremony will be broadcast live on the internet and live on Beach TV cable television which is carried on Channel 95 on Charter Cable in Long Beach, Channel 28 in Lakewood, and Channel 25 on Verizon FiOS in Long Beach. Test your webcast connection at your appropriate bandwidth before the ceremony begins. DVDs of the ceremony will be available for purchase at the bookstore at a later date.
