Science and Math Safari to Success is a FREE orientation program for students sponsored by CNSM. The goal of the program is to help you feel connected to your college and introduce you to the different opportunities and resources we have available. During the day, you will also have the opportunity to connect with CNSM Peer Mentors learn about our academic departments, and interact with the advisors and professional student support staff.

Who can attend?

Safari to Success is limited to incoming CNSM freshmen students.

When will it take place?

Tuesday, August 22, 2017 (time TBD). The event will take place in front of the Hall of Science Building (HSCI), west end. View campus map.

What will happen during the event?

During this event, you will get a chance to network with your peers, meet staff and faculty in CNSM, and interact with the Peer Mentors, upperclass students who will serve as tutors and mentors for you throughout the year. Over lunch, there will be a resource fair where you can learn about the different offices, clubs, organizations, and services to support you through your first year at the Beach. The event will wrap up with a chance to learn more about the different majors in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

What is the cost?

There is no cost to attend the event. However, parking is NOT included in the cost. Parking is $7 per vehicle.

Where do I park?

Safari event parking is located in lots 11A and 12, as well as parking structures 2 and 3, all of which are near the southwest corner of Atherton Street and Palo Verde Avenue. Day parking is $7 payable via cash or credit at the yellow paystations located on the edge of each lot. Safari Parking Map.

Once parked:

  1. Travel south past the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC) and tennis courts until you reach State University Drive.
  2. Turn west (right) and take the pedestrian path until you reach the front of the Health and Human Services (HHS) buildings. You will be in a courtyard with stairs to the left.
  3. Turn south (left) and travel up the stairs.*
  4. Continue to the top of the stairs, past the University Student Union (USU). The Hall of Science (HSCI) will be the second building on the left after the USU.

*An elevator is located in the University Student Union (USU).
