Undergraduate RISE Program

The Undergraduate RISE Program is designed for those students who have two years remaining to their undergraduate studies and who wish to pursue a Ph.D. and a research career. Undergraduate RISE students may be students who have not previously been part of the RISE program, including community college transfer students. Undergraduate RISE students conduct faculty-mentored research with CSULB faculty for two years, are members of a research career focused peer learning community, and take courses in Scientific Research Communication (RSCH 361) and Advanced Biomedical Research Methods (RSCH 496A).

Students in the Undergraduate RISE Program earn wages while working in faculty-directed research for up to 15 hours a week during the academic year and up to 40 hours a week when classes are not in session.

Application

The current application period is closed.

The RISE and BUILD programs at CSULB use a joint application form. RISE applicants should have a letter of support from a mentor who has agreed to accept the student into their research program. Applicants are interviewed shortly after the applications are received and applicants will be contacted to make appointments. Award decisions will be made by early May and students will begin work in laboratories in June.
