Guest Lecture from Sebouh David Aslanian, Department of History, UCLA

Dr. Sebouh David Aslanian will speak on “Cross-Cultural Credit Networks, Legal Institutions, and ‘Trust’: Bills of Exchange between Julfan Armenians and Marwari Sarrafs in Early Modern Isfahan and Mughal India”. He is an Associate Professor for the department of History at UCLA, specializing in early modern world and Armenian history. He received his doctorate from Columbia University with distinction, and is the first holder of the Richard Hovannisian Endowed Chair of Modern Armenian History. He  is the author of numerous essays and one book, titled “From the Indian Ocean to the Mediterranean: The Global Trade Networks of Armenian Merchants from New Julfa”.
