German Studies Students hosted the “100 Years of Death and Judgment Conference”

On September 21-22, 2012, the students of CSULB’s German Studies Program hosted the “100 Years of Death and Judgment Conference” in the Karl Anatol Center. The conference celebrated the 100th anniversary of Thomas Mann’s Death in Venice and Franz Kafka’s The Judgment. Student presenters, moderators, and guests from across the country and from various fields came together to participate in eighteen stimulating discussions about these two remarkable works from 1912.

Deputy Consul General Stefan Biedermann from the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Los Angeles opens the conference on Friday morning.

Benjamin Tippin, a recent BFA Sculpture graduate from CSULB, answers questions about his presentation on German Expressionism and Kafka’s “The Judgment.”
