Jewish Studies Program: Guest Lecture — Dr. Lawrence Baron

CSULB’s Jewish Studies Program is pleased to open its fall 2012 lecture series with Dr. Lawrence Baron and his lecture “The Wandering View: The Jewish Immigrant in World Cinema.”

Dr. Baron holds the Nasatir Chair in Modern Jewish History at San Diego State University and directed its Jewish Studies Program until 2006. He is the author of Projecting the Holocaust into the Present: The Changing Focus of Contemporary Holocaust Cinema. His lecture will present the cinematic depictions of Jewish immigrants, including the masses who entered the United States at Ellis Island, the Zionist pioneers to Palestine, Jewish immigrants to Mexico, Holocaust refugees, and the post-1948 mizrahim to Israel. Film clips will be shown as part of the lecture.
