Password Expiration

Many of you are having to reset your password and may be confused as to why. In August of 2011, certain new systems went online, that began the process of unifying all campus passwords. The link between the passwords is BeachID. Once you activated your BeachID password and used the BeachID website (, your passwords for all campus services (except PeopleSoft SA) were synchronized. Now if any one of your passwords need to change, like CFS (every 90 days) that change will cause *all* of your passwords to change (except PeopleSoft SA). The campus is on a minimum 1 year password expiration, however, if you use a more secure system such as CFS, your password will expire more often than 1 year, CFS passwords expire every 90 days. So, if you need to change your CFS password because it expires, you need to change your BeachID password since CFS uses that password, and so does everything else (except PeopleSoft SA). Hopefully this clears things up a little, if not feel free to ask questions.


Email Issues

There are certain issues that CLA faculty and staff should be aware of with respect to the new email system:

  1. Some legitimate email messages are being automatically filtered into the junk mail folder. Information Technology Services is aware of the issue. It is recommended that you regularly monitor the junk email folder. If a legitimate message is moved to the Junk Email folder please take the following steps. In Outlook 2010 for Windows:  right click the message, select “Junk Email”, and select “Never Block Sender”. In Outlook 2011 for Macintosh:  hold the control key and click the message, select the “Junk Email “ item, and “Mark as Not  Junk”.  Macintosh Mail; hold the control key and click message, select Mark,  and select “as not junk mail”. The message can then be moved to the inbox or appropriate folder.
  2. If after the email migration you are missing contacts or email messages, they are likely stored locally on your computer and need to be manually imported the new email system.
  3. If you set a “Vacation Message” notification in the old email system prior to the migration you may not be receiving email messages sent to your old address.  The setting will need to be removed by ITS.

CLA Email Migration Completion Notification

All CLA email accounts have been successfully migrated to the new MS Exchange system.

If you have not done so, first activate your Beach ID password by going to:

Your  email account can be accessed from the new webmail interface at  by entering your new email address ( along with your Beach ID password.

If you have any problems accessing your new account call CLA Tech Services at 985-4572 and leave a number where you can be reached. An effort will be made to contact you this weekend. All other issues will be attended  to this coming week.

Email Migration Notification

This is a reminder that CLA faculty and staff email accounts will be migrated to the new Microsoft Exchange email system this weekend. The migration window is scheduled from 6:00 pm Thursday 11/10/11 until Sunday 11/10/11. During that time CLA faculty and staff will not have access to their email accounts.  However, there is a good possibility that the migration will be complete sometime Saturday 11/13/11. A completion notification will be posted on the CLA Tech Blog: Once the migration is complete the email accounts will be accessible and ready to use.

Installation of Microsoft Office

Change:  Installation of Microsoft Office



In order to provide optimized service and support, the campus is standardizing on Microsoft Office 2010 for Windows and Office 2011 for Macintosh computers as part of the email upgrade project.  Tomorrow, Thursday 11/3/11, CLA Technical Services will begin remote installations of Office 2010 to Windows computers.


What you need to do:

If you have a Windows Desktop computer – Thursday, November 3rd, no later than 5 PM, please have your computer on, but logged off.  The remote installation will be pushed to your computer during the evening.

If you have a Windows Laptop – Office 2010 will install the next time the computer is started while physically connected to the campus network. Please note that you will not be able to use your computer during the installation which should take between 20 minutes to 1 hour to complete.

Note:  if a computer currently has Office 2010 the system will not attempt to reinstall the application.


For Macintosh Computers:

We do not have the capability to remotely install Microsoft Office 2011 on Macintosh computers. If you have a Macintosh laptop please contact CLA Technical Service to coordinate having Office 2011 installed on your computer.
