Stacy Embretson

Stacy Embretson is currently the Director of Operations for the Honda LA Marathon.  A native of Brainerd, MN and a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Stacy joined the staff in October 2009.  As Director of Operations she is a part of the team that was charged with reinventing the LA Marathon.   She played a key role in the creation of the new “Stadium to the Sea” marathon course that travels from Dodger Stadium to Santa Monica.  This new course was a contributing factor in the race reaching its registration cap of 25,000 participants which was a first in the marathon’s 25 year history.

Prior to the LA Marathon, Stacy was the Director of Race Operations for US Road Sports & Entertainment of Georgia and the Race Director of the Long Beach International City Bank Marathon in Long Beach, CA, a race which grew from 12,000 to 14,000 participants in the three years she managed the race.  This event includes a marathon, half marathon, bike tour, 5K and kids run all which take place in one day.  In addition to the marathon, Stacy also coordinated all operations and logistics for the Dana Point Turkey Trot which at 11,000 participants is one of the largest Thanksgiving Day races west of the Mississippi.  In her first year in Long Beach, Stacy produced a USA Triathlon Elite National Championship race and had the opportunity to plan and develop the Pacific Open Water Challenge swimming and running event which became a FINA World Cup event in 2010.

Stacy is a veteran of 30 marathons, 3 Ironman triathlons, 4 50k's, a 50 miler, and numerous half-marathons. In addition to her personal experience completing races, Embretson created and implemented the Jr. Beachrunners training program for students enrolled in the Long Beach Parks and Recreation after-school programs.  Students in this program completed 25.2 miles over a period of 10 weeks and then completed the final mile of their marathon at the Long Beach International City Bank Marathon Kids Run.

During her career, Embretson has also had the opportunity to assist in such high profile events as the Dextro Energy ITU World Championship Series Triathlon in Washington DC, Hyvee World Cup Triathlon/Olympic Selection Event, the 2007 Honolulu Triathlon/USAT Elite National Championship race, and races in the Ironman 70.3 series.  Stacy received a MA from the Graduate Program in Sport Management at California State University, Long Beach and in 2008 was given the opportunity to return to her alma mater as an instructor in the graduate program.
