T his federal legislation allows more individuals to obtain health insurance.  It expands eligibility for Medi-Cal (free or cost-sharing health care), offers subsidies (tax credits) to low and middle-income people to buy private insurance, and imposes new regulations on the health insurance industry.

As of October 1, 2013, millions of Californians can now sign up for health insurance under this new law.
