Option in Sport and Exercise Psychology (Master of Science)

This option is designed to prepare students for careers in sport and exercise psychology, in particular as athletic performance enhancements specialists and/or as researchers and teachers in academic settings.

1.    Core (18 units):

        KIN 512  Legal and Ethical issues in Sport (3)

        KIN 572  Applied Sport Psychology (3)

        KIN 577  Sport and U.S. Culture (3)

        KIN 578  Psychological Aspects of Exercise and Fitness (3)

        KIN 633  Seminar in Sport Psychology (3)

        KIN 696  Research Methods and Stats (3)

2.    Elective Courses (12 units):

       Select four of the following courses:

       KIN 573, 575, 630, 697, PSY 553, 575, 581, 678.   

2.  Select either option A, B, or C (6 units):

     A.  Thesis/Project:  KIN 698 Thesis/Project (6 units)

      B.   Capstone:  KIN 694 Capstone in Kinesiology (3 units) plus three (3) units chosen from the Elective Courses.

     C.  Comprehensive Examination:  Passing score in written and oral portions of Comprehensive Examination plus six (6) units chosen from Elective Courses.


*Prerequisite courses for option in Sport and Exercise Psychology:

PSY 100 (General Psychology)

Undergraduate course in probability and statistics

KIN 339I (Psychology of Sport Behavior and Athletic Performance).

* Equivalent courses at other institutions may be substituted.
