Our Mission

Our mission is to provide students with the knowledge, skills and abilities needed by entry level health care professionals in an ethnically and culturally diverse community.


Our Vision

Our vision is to be the premiere health care management and leadership program recognized for excellence in education, innovation, and practice.

Our Goals: Teaching, Research, and Service

Our teaching goals: we will strive to offer a curriculum that supports and matches the needs of the health care industry and meets or exceeds AUPHA standards, and to attract and retain well-qualified students to train and educate in order to meet the needs of health care industry.

Our research goals: we will conduct, facilitate, and disseminate health services and health care management research.

Our service goals: we aim to serve as a resource for University governance and for the industry as volunteers and consultants in order to promote the efficient and effective operation of the University and of health care and professional organizations.


Our Objectives: Teaching, Research, and Service

Our Teaching Objectives

First, we will offer a curriculum that supports and matches the needs of the health care industry and meets or exceeds AUPHA standards, as follows:

  1. To ensure quality control of course content across sections through course coordination.

  2. To leverage expertise of our highly qualified core and executive faculty in order to deliver well-balanced, innovative programs.

  3. To incorporate health services and health management research into our curriculum.

  4. To improve the job placement and satisfaction rates of HCA graduates in HCA Department surveys.

  5. To offer travel courses and study abroad programs to in order to expose HCA students to culturally and ethnically different environments

Secondly, we will attract and retain well-qualified students to train and educate in order to meet the needs of health care industry with the goals of increasing the number of students declaring health care administration as their majors and to improve the quality of students coming into the health care administration major.

Our Research Objectives

We will recruit faculty members who contribute towards the research productivity of the HCA Department, to ensure that faculty contributes towards the research and scholarship productivity of the HCA Department, and to conduct collaborative, community-based research.

Our Service Objectives

We will develop and maintain strong ties with HCA alumni, the practitioner community, the University, and the CSULB College of Health and Human Services; to create opportunities for experiential learning and professional development through internship, alumni, and practitioner relationships; and to serve on important college and university committees.
