CSULB Gerontology Certificate Description

Consider a Certificate in the field of aging!
- The Certificate program is designed to educate individuals as gerontology specialists within a major field of study. Students in ANY major are eligible to apply for the Certificate.
Student Learning Outcomes



At the completion of the Gerontology Certificate, you will be able to:
1Apply gerontology concepts and principles within your major field of study
2
Initiate techniques to dispel ageism within your major field of study
3 Apply theories of adult growth and development, biological changes with aging, and culture and aging within your major field of study
4 Apply concepts and skill related to aging in field experiences with older adults and families
Admission Requirements

Admission requirements include:

A bachelor’s degree in any major (may be taken concurrently)

A minimum GPA of 2.5
-
Upper division standing (junior, senior or graduate)
Application Process



If you are currently a CSULB student:
- In consultation with the Gerontology Certificate Coordinator, submit to Enrollment Services the intent form to add the Certificate in Gerontology to the major program of study.
- Apply for the Certificate in Gerontology through completion of the appropriate Program Planner in consultation with the Gerontology Certificate Coordinator. This must be done in the semester prior to the completion of the Certificate to assure timely issuance of the Certificate.
If you are NOT currently a CSULB student
- Apply for admission to the University and select the “Certificate only” option, specifying Gerontology. Application deadline is June 1 for the fall semester
- Apply for the Certificate in Gerontology through completion of the appropriate Program Planner in consultation with the Gerontology Certificate Coordinator. This must be done in the semester prior to the completion of the Certificate to assure timely issuance of the Certificate.
