Application Process and Deadlines

Students must concurrently submit applictions to the Unversity Admissions and Records Office and to the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.


Materials to send to the University:

  1. Completed graduate application and application fee. (Applications can be completed online via
  2. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities.
  3. Officially reported GRE scores. Send GRE scores using the CSULB institution code, 4389.

Materials to send to Graduate Coordinator, Dr. Virginia Gray:

  1. A hardcopy printout of your completed CSUMentor application.
    1. Disregard the "For Your Records. Do Not Send to the University" warning on the completed application since you are mailing this directly to the department.
  2. Three (3) letters of recommendation. At least two letters must come from professors. One letter may come from a nutrition professional outside of the university setting (such as a work or volunteer supervisor). All must be signed and sealed on official letter head.
    Please note that a letter of recommendation sent through DICAS is not sufficient and a physical letter is required for the FCS department. For questions about this, please contact the current Graduate Assistant (

For students choosing the IPND Emphasis (Dietetic Internship). Send these items to IPND Director, Dr. Gail Frank:

  • The “Letter of Intent” (Before December 1st is best but accepted until February 15th)
  • The “GPA Sheet”
  • The “Work Experience Sheet”
  • A check for $45 made payable to CSULB (non-refundable)
