Camp Nugget 2013 Kicks Off June 17th

Since its establishment in 1970, Camp Nugget at California State University, Long Beach has served thousands of children with disabilities by affording them positive opportunities to enjoy and successfully participate in physical activity, games, sports and aquatic experiences.  The mission of the Camp Nugget program is to promote a healthy lifestyle that provides fun physical activities and individualized instruction to children with disabilities.  The program also provides valuable training and teaching experiences for university students who are studying in the Adapted Physical Education teacher education program. These university students will graduate and serve children with disabilities in the public schools throughout California.  Camp Nugget 2013 runs from 9am to noon Monday through Friday from June 17th to July 12th.

Camp Nugget 2013 would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for its support of this year’s camp.  Through generous contributions from The California Wellness Foundation, The CSULB 49er Shops, and the Employee Community Fund of Boeing California, the camp is able to offer highly personalized instruction and support to its campers.  Because of our supporters’ generosity, this year’s camp will be able to host 46 campers and 6 junior counselors as well as maintain a low staff-to-camper ratio.

About Camp Nugget

Camp Nugget is built upon the strong conviction that movement is important and beneficial for everyone! Children with special needs should be afforded the same opportunities to enjoy and successfully participate in physical activity. Camp Nugget is designed to provide positive health-related physical fitness, fundamental motor skills, aquatics, cooperative games, and sport experiences for children with special needs and disabilities ages 5 - 12. The program provides a positive, active, and fun experience in a small child/staff (4:1) ratio setting.
