Student Leadership Institute
The Ukleja Center for Ethical Leadership launched its core educational program in 2006. The Student Leadership Institute is designed to equip students with the transformational power of ethical leadership. Class participants have an opportunity to explore ethical issues related to business, education, government, healthcare, and other professional fields. The class meets at Boeing, JetBlue, Target, and other local businesses. This program enables students to discover their core values and build a strong ethical foundation upon which future decisions can be made. Teamwork, community service, and networking with guest speakers are an integral part of the course, which is taught by Dr. Kathleen Lacey.
Community service projects have included:
- Volunteering at a youth correctional facility to provide inmates with training on college applications and job interviewing skills upon their release
- Volunteering at Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times by creating workshops for young cancer patients at this family camp
Ethics Across the Curriculum
One of the goals of the Ukleja Center is to encourage the multidisciplinary integration of ethics into the university curriculum. The Ukleja Center for Ethical Leadership offers an annual Ethics Across the Curriculum initiative that financially supports the infusion of ethics and ethical leadership in undergraduate and graduate courses throughout the university. CSULB faculty members are invited to apply for teaching stipends each fall. Faculty members can apply here. For further information, please contact the program chair, Dr. Kathleen Lacey.
Ethics at The Beach
The Ukleja Center partners with the Associated Business Students Organization Council and Student Center for Professional Development to offer an annual ethics workshop, Ethics at The Beach. There's a minimal fee for students to attend the workshop (which includes breakfast) thanks to sponsorships from the County of Los Angeles, Target, and Associated Students Incorporated of CSULB. All majors are welcome to attend!
The next Ethics at The Beach workshop will be held in the USU Ballroom from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017. The workshop will feature interactive presentations from dynamic speakers.
