I completed a 32-year career in aerospace on the Space Shuttle program for both Rockwell International (Downey, CA) and Boeing (Huntington Beach, CA). I transitioned from supporting project engineers and managers early in my experience as a business analyst, to leading and managing projects for the majority of my aerospace career. I was responsible for work in many functions (a large variety of engineering departments, manufacturing engineering, quality assurance, and many others). Most of the work I managed was in the Test & Evaluation (T&E) and Material Processes (M&P) Engineering & M&P Engineering Lab organizations. A significant effort I managed in the Test & Evaluation organization was related to Return to Flight qualification testing after the tragic loss of the Orbiter Columbia in January 2003. Much of our work in the M&P labs was to develop more environmentally friendly materials to replace toxic materials used to process the Space Shuttle Orbiter between each flight. I started as a Management/HRM department lecturer in the Fall of 2015. Due to my professional experience, my Management courses are slanted to help students understand STEM subjects, and how they apply to business management and leadership. I recognize from my own professional experience, those business majors who embrace engineering/science/technology will get ahead of their rivals.
