Dean’s Update, December 16, 2011

Other Items in Brief

Here is a brief look at other activities and efforts that enrich the life of our college:

  • The Management/Human Resource Management Department’s Operations & Supply Chain Management option has 175 majors, and its Advisory Board is getting up and running, having met twice during the fall semester; the Advisory Board is helping to arrange a pilot mentor and internship program in the spring semester. Thanks for CBA faculty members Judy Strauss, Phil Chong, Sherry Su, Ming Chen, and Rich Martin for their contributions to getting the option and the Advisory Board off the ground.
  • Operations & Supply Chain Management student Josh LeBarre received a $500 scholarship at the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals annual luncheon in Torrance on December 8. OSCM faculty members Sherry Su and Ming Chin were there in support of Josh.
  • Peter Ammerman and Yulong Ma organized an investment management competition in the CBA on November 18 for the Chartered Financial Analysts of Orange County Foundation. Teams from the CBA, CSU Fullerton, and UC Irvine competed to earn the right to actively manage CFAOC Foundation funds. Our SMIF team, under the guidance of Peter and Yulong, were awarded first place by a panel of CFAOC judges. They will soon find out how much money they will be managing.
  • Annette Lohman has been working hard to organize the International Collegiate Business Strategy Competition again this year. It will run during the Spring Semester and culminate in the final rounds of decision here on campus April 19 – 21. Teams from Northwestern, Purdue, Rice, and HEC Montreal have signed up to compete.
  • The CBA Advising Center held an open house on Friday, December 9, and advisors from across campus got a look at the newly-renovated offices. They were impressed with the student-friendly layout and the new computer registration and sign-in kiosk.
