Ukleja Center for Ethical Leadership

Ethics at The Beach

Ukleja Center
Ethics at The Beach to be held on November 1, 2013

Each fall, the Ukleja Center for Ethical Leadership partners with ABSOC, Law Society, and the Student Center for Professional Development to offer a half-day Ethics at The Beach seminar.  This year’s event will be held in the USU Ballroom from 9:00 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, November 1st.  Aaron Beam, a former CFO of HealthSouth Corporation who spent time in prison, will talk about the pitfalls and consequences of unethical business practices.  Dr. Richard Strozzi-Heckler, President of Strozzi Institute, will share practical ways to manage conflict and stress.

Thanks to generous support from the County of Los Angeles, Target, and Associated Students Inc., there is no charge for students to attend the seminar, which includes continental breakfast.  Reservations are required at by October 25th.

Ethics Across the Curriculum

The Ukleja Center’s Ethics Across the Curriculum initiative was created to support the infusion of ethics and ethical leadership in undergraduate and graduate courses across the CSULB campus.  Faculty and lecturers are invited to submit proposals for a $2,000 pedagogical stipend to support the development of a 3-hour ethics module in the course(s) that they teach.

Application materials are available at (click on “apply here”).  Proposals will be evaluated by a review committee chaired by Dr. Kathleen Lacey and comprised of past stipend recipients.  The application deadline is Friday, November 8th.  To be inclusive, priority will be given to new applicants and to modules for courses in a college’s core curricula or courses that are mandatory for a particular major.  Award recipients will be honored at a luncheon in the spring.

For further information or to submit a proposal, please contact Dr. Kathleen Lacey at or extension 5-5668.
