CBA's Melinda Smith Named University Employee of the Month

Melinda Smith

Melinda Smith, receptionist in the Dean’s Office, has been named CSULB Employee of the Month for April.  Please join me in congratulating her on this fine honor.

Melinda began her career at CSULB in April 2000 in Facilities Management as a “temp” and ultimately worked her way into the Key Issue, where she stayed until joining the College of Business Administration in October 2007.  Melinda says it best in her own words:

“I truly enjoy coming to work each day.  I work with a great team that is really like family.  They are supportive on the good days and the not-so-good ones as well.  I am very thankful for my home here on our beautiful campus.  My job allows me to do one of the many passions I have and that is talking to people.  I have always been a “people person” and here I have endless opportunities to talk with so many people each day.  I can honestly say I have met many interesting people and enjoy hearing their stories.”

Melinda’s biggest passion is her four grandkids.  She believes being a grandma is just the best thing in life.  Not that this next passion comes as a surprise to anyone who knows her, but Melinda has an over-the-top love for animals.  She enjoys traveling and LOVES Las Vegas: “a girl’s trip to Vegas is the best medicine for anything that ails you.”

Melinda sums up things very well: “As for me, I am a loving and compassionate person.  I love life and my friends and family.  I try to be a good friend to everyone and listen with my heart but at the end of the day I know that I am who I am…a goofball and that’s really not a bad thing.”
