Dean’s Welcome: Engage, Execute, & Excel
Welcome to the website of the College of Business Administration at California State University, Long Beach. CBA's core values are engagement, execution, and excellence.
Excellence is our ultimate goal. CBA is one of 711 business schools in 47 countries out of nearly 16,000 world-wide that are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International. AACSB standards require our faculty to maintain academic and professional qualifications and our students to achieve CBA’s learning goals. We are committed to excellence in education, and our continuous accreditation since 1972 is a testimony to the hard work and dedication of our faculty and staff.
Our faculty is the foundation of our excellence. Between 2005 and 2013, 37 new tenure-track faculty members joined CBA. In fall 2014, seven additional faculty members will become part of the CBA family: three in Accountancy, one in Quantitative Methods, two in Strategy, and one in Supply Chain Management.
CBA also provides outstanding opportunities for learning, growth, and development outside the classroom. The Ukleja Center for Ethical Leadership and the Student Center for Professional Development engage students in professional activities that extend beyond academic degree requirements. Through seminars, mentoring relationships, and service to the community, participating students develop substantial real-world experience.
The Ukleja Center partners with the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce to sponsor Living Ethics Every Day, where former PIMCO CEO Mohamed El-Erian was the 2014 keynote speaker as well as the 2014 Nell and John Wooden Ethics in Leadership award winner. SCPD offers the Passport to Success to help students develop the interpersonal, leadership, and communications skills that employers are looking for in our graduates.
Our Student Managed Investment Fund provides Finance students with hands-on experience managing real-money portfolios. The Associated Business Students Organizations Council, comprised of twelve student clubs, helps our students become strong future business leaders through professional events and workshops. With the help of key alumni volunteers, we are developing a strong CBA Alumni & Friends network that will extend the CBA family beyond graduation.
Our students are working more hours than ever to afford their education, and privately funded scholarships and awards can make a measurable difference in their lives. Such support allows students to work less, study more, and participate in professional development programs, campus life, and community service--opportunities that contribute to a better prepared, better equipped California workforce. We are working hard to provide as many scholarship opportunities for our students as possible, and the support of our alumni and friends is crucial in these efforts.
Along a variety of dimensions, CBA engages our students in ways that enhance their academic and career success. I invite you to connect with us as we prepare future business leaders for California, the nation, and the world. If CBA continues to engage, execute and excel, I am sure that we can overcome any challenge that comes our way.
