Faculty Qualification Definition and Standard

  Academic Applied/Practice
Normally Doctor’s Degree

Scholarly Academics (SA)

AACSB Definition:

 Sustain currency and relevance through scholarship and related activities. Normally, SA status is granted to newly hired faculty members who earned their research doctorates within the last 5 years prior to the review dates.

CBA proposed qualification standard:

 Doctor’s degree in 5 years

OR

 Doctor’s degree more than 5 years, 9 Intellectual Contribution (IC) points, 6 points from A-D journal publications in 5 years

Practice Academics (PA)

AACSB Definition:

 Sustain currency and relevance through professional engagement, interaction, and relevant activities. Normally, PA status applies to faculty members who augment their preparation as academic scholars with development and engagement activities that involve substantive linkages to practice, consulting, other forms of professional engagement, etc. based on the faculty members’ earlier work as an SA faculty member.

CBA proposed qualification standard:

 Doctor’s degree more than 5 years

 5 IC points, 5 Professional Contribution

Normally Master’s Degree

Scholarly Practitioners (SP)

AACSB Definition:

 Sustain currency and relevance thorough continued professional experience, engagement, or interaction and scholarship related to their professional background and experience. Normally, SP status applied to practitioner faculty members who augment their experience with development and engagement activities involving substantive scholarly activities in their fields of teaching.

CBA proposed qualification standard:

 Master’s or Doctor’s degree

 3 IC points, 5 PC points in 5 years

Instructional Practitioners (IP)

AACSB Definition:

 Sustain currency and relevance through continued professional experience and engagement related to their professional backgrounds and experience. Normally, IP status is granted to newly hired faculty members who join the faculty with significant and substantive professional experience.

CBA proposed qualification standard:

 Master’s or Doctor’s degree

 10 PC points in 5 years
