CUDA is a team of experts both trained and experienced in usability principles and methods.
Our members are:

Dr. Gerard Hanley, Director

Gerry co-founded CUDA as a campus-approved research, service, and instruction center. He has developed and managed a wide range of usability projects including laboratory and field tests, heuristics evaluations and walkthroughs, and task analyses for educational institutions, government agencies, and private industry. He is also Senior Director of Academic Technology Services for the CSU Office of the Chancellor.

Gerry earned his Ph.D. in Psychology from State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Dr. Kim-Phuong L. Vu, Associate Director

Kim is an associate professor in the Department of Psychology at CSULB. Her area of expertise is human factors and human-computer interaction. She is co-editor of the Handbook of Human Factors in Web Design (2005) and she has published papers addressing human factors issues in Web design, metacognitive judgments that predict computer expertise, and the role of restrictions in the memorability and security of passwords for single and multiple accounts.

Kim earned her Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology (with Human Factors emphasis) from Purdue University.

T.R. Rubino-Schaefer, Coordinator and Operations Manager

As CUDA's coordinator and operations manager, T.R. is responsible for managing CUDA projects, conducting usability and accessibility evaluations, writing reports, developing surveys, analyzing data from evaluations and surveys, and conducting CUDA workshops, seminars, and presentations.

T.R. has Bachelor of Arts degrees in Math and Psychology from CSULB, a Masters degree in Math Education from CSU Fullerton, and a J.D. from Pacific Coast University.

Donald Strand, Information Technology Specialist

Don provides usability, accessibility, and instructional design, development, and evaluation support for web and database development projects that serve the entire CSU system. Examples include the CSU Graduation Initiative, Affordable Learning Solutions, and Early Assessment Program, Math and English Success web sites, and Institutional Teaching Commons (ITC) program.

Don has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Photographic Illustration from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY.
