This year, the Economics Department conferred the Wallace Atherton Memorial Award on an Outstanding Graduating Senior, the J. Richard Powell Award of Merit to the Outstanding Graduate Student, and announced the Distinguished Undergraduates in Economics. The 2010-11 awardees are Celeste Ahl, Alyssa Azucenas, Brydey Redmon and Hun Park. Fabio Dicecca and Katherine Safaei were both recipients of the Distinguished Master’s Student Award in Economics.
Celeste Ahl received the Wallace Atherton Memorial Award and was also named the Distinguished Undergraduate in Business Economics. Ahl was a double major in international business and business economics, and she graduated summa cum laude in both subjects. She was also on the President’s List of Outstanding Students who maintained a GPA of 3.75 or higher.
Alyssa Azucenas is the recipient of the Distinguished Undergraduate in Mathematical Economics award. Azucenas was a double major in applied mathematics and mathematical economics and economic theory. She graduated cum laude in both subjects.
Brydey Redmon received the J. Richard Powell Award of Merit for the Outstanding Graduate Student and graduated summa cum laude. Her paper, co-authored with Professor Kristen Monaco, "Firm Characteristics and Accidents in Motor Carriage," will be published in a transportation safety journal. She is currently applying to Ph.D. programs and looks forward to beginning one next fall.
Hun Park is the recipient of the Distinguished Undergraduate in Economics award. Park graduated magna cum laude and was on the President’s List of Outstanding Students who maintained a GPA of 3.75 or higher.
