Volleyballers on USA Teams at World Championships

Long Beach State men’s volleyball players Taylor Crabb and Connor Olbright helped the U.S. Men’s Junior National Team to a fourth-place finish at the FIVB Men’s Junior World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in August.

Crabb captained the U.S. team, which took its highest finish out of five previous championship entries. The U.S. went 2-1 in both rounds of pool play to advance to the medal rounds before falling to top-ranked Argentina.

The FIVB Women’s Junior World Championships took place in July in Lima, Peru, where Haleigh Hampton helped the USA Junior National Team to a fourth-place finish. Team USA advanced out of pool play to the third-place match, eventually falling to China. Hampton finished third on the American squad with 55 kills.

Men’s Volleyball Players Earn Kudos

The American Volleyball Coaches Association named Antwain Aguillard to its Division I-II Men’s All-America Second Team, his first All-America honor. The middle blocker led the 49ers and ranked seventh in the nation with 1.21 blocks per set.

His 135 total blocks were second in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), which earlier chose him all-federation first team along with Taylor Crabb and Kirk Francis as honorable mentions.

The MPSF also named Ian Satterfield to its All-Academic Team, for which athletes must earn at least a 3.0 GPA.
