My Beach Experience

y Beach experience has been about taking advantage of the full realm of the college experience, and giving it my all!  I feel that hard work and determination has gotten me where I am today, and each step of my college career has given me amazing opportunities.

Getting to CSULB

From the time I began applying to colleges to the time I started taking classes at CSULB, I had always felt that CSULB had been “calling” me to attend.  By growing up in the area, I knew just how great of an impact the school has on the city and the community as a whole.  I feel the school creates a great learning environment, with never-ending opportunities for people of all interests.  Whether you are in to sports, music, theatrical performances, clubs for ANY interest, or solely on academics, CSULB has all this to offer and more!  Despite the large size of the school, all of the clubs and other campus communities are able to still give the school a “small” vibe allowing you to create meaningful and lasting relationships.

Taking the Opportunities

I once saw a quote that said, “Now is the time of your life to have the time of your life” and, without a doubt, I have had the time of my life while attending college here.  CSULB has opportunities available around every corner.  By entering as a President’s Scholar, I was able to meet a great group of people before classes had even started.  I quickly developed friendships with many of these people, and have created meaningful and hopefully lifelong relationships.  I have always strived for success throughout my academic career, and have been a part of both the University Honors Program and the CBA Honors Program, which has enabled me to write my thesis evaluating how a person values time and money.  It turns out, the average college student values time over money!  With my research, I was able to enter the CSULB Student Research Competition and am going on to compete in the Statewide Student Research Competition in May.  I have also played on an intramural soccer team while attending here.  The team is made up of some of my closest friends, and allows us to get together to do something that I’ve always loved doing as I have played soccer since I was six.  We always have a great time, and I look forward every week to our soccer games.  I am also planning on attending a business workshop in Germany this summer…being as I have never traveled out of the country before, I can’t wait to take advantage of this amazing short-term study abroad opportunity.  Whether it is through academics, extracurricular activities, or any other opportunity, CSULB has allowed me to not only take advantage of these opportunities, but also to discover who I am.

My Beach Beyond the Beach

After graduation, I hope to launch my career in the marketing field.  I have enjoyed each and every one of my marketing classes here at the Beach and can’t wait to use my knowledge upon entering the workforce.  Once I have established myself in the marketing field and begin looking for chances to grow and expand my knowledge, I would like to return back to school to get my MBA.  I feel this will help me further my career and allow me to enhance my potential in the business world.  Ideally, I would like to stay in the Long Beach area after I graduate.  This will allow me to contribute to the city as well as giving back to CSULB.  With all the benefits and opportunities I have received from my experience at the Beach, I feel the least I can do is to give back for all that I have received.
